Penang Weather Information
Current Weather at the Airport
Penang enjoys a year-round equatorial climate which is warm and sunny, along with plentiful rainfall, especially during the southwest monsoon from April to September. The climate is very much dictated by the surrounding sea and the wind system.
Penang’s proximity with Sumatra, Indonesia makes it susceptible to dust and smoke particles carried by wind from perennial but transient forest fires, creating a phenomenon known as “the haze”.

Current Weather at Penang’s International Airport
Like most islands in the Andaman Sea, Penang rarely experiences cold weather. Even the lowest of temperatures could only be called cool. There is a traditional HOT season, December through February when it is more dry and so stays hotter. Rainy season cools things down, but even the torrential rains rarely last more than 20-30 minutes, so it is no reason to avoid rainy season for a vacation. Penang weather is welcoming pretty much any time of the year. The rainy season just helps to cool things off with a typical rain session in the afternoon and then a bit more during the night. It refreshes the air and cleans the streets for you to enjoy them even more. The tropical beauty of Penang is enhanced by this seasonal variation. The heaviest rainfalls are during September, October and November when then leads in to the “hot and dry” season. Go and enjoy and don’t worry about the weather. Penang weather is always refreshing!
